Senior Software Engineer
Be part of building the Growth Engine for the Entire Compliance Lifecycle with Bits.
Join us in building the future of compliance technology
We're scaling our engineering team and looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help shape and build the core of our compliance platform.
This is an opportunity to join a product company where architecture, reliability, and elegant problem-solving matter, and where your code will directly enable FinTechs, banks, and financial institutions to remain compliant across multiple markets.
If you enjoy problem solving in distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and writing clean, easy-to-maintain code, this role could be a great fit. Prior experience with Golang and/or AWS is a plus.
About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer at Bits, you'll play a key role in designing, building, and scaling our event-driven platform. You'll work with Go, AWS, serverless technologies, and modern architectural patterns to create systems that are both robust and delightful for developers to integrate with.
You'll collaborate closely with our product and engineering team in Stockholm and have real influence on technical decisions, standards, and architectural direction. This is a hands-on role with significant ownership. You build the systems, you shape the patterns, you influence the platform.
What You'll Do
System Architecture & Backend Development
Design, build, and maintain backend services written in Go, following best practices for performance and maintainability.
Develop scalable, event-driven and message-based systems using AWS-native services.
Contribute to architectural discussions and influence long-term technical direction.
Cloud Infrastructure & Operations
Work deeply with AWS (Lambda, SQS, Kinesis, DynamoDB, API Gateway etc.).
Build secure, reliable, and observable production systems.
Collaborate with the team on CI/CD, monitoring, and infrastructure automation.
Product & Feature Development
Partner with Product to translate requirements into technical solutions that meet customer needs.
Build new platform features that improve onboarding, monitoring, entity management, and compliance workflows.
Own services end-to-end: development → deployment → testing → operation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Product, Design, and Commercial teams to ensure alignment on customer and regulatory requirements.
Contribute to improving internal engineering processes, standards, and conventions.
Act as a technical mentor and sounding board for peers within the engineering team.
Quality, Security & Reliability
Drive engineering excellence through high-quality code, testing, documentation, and observability.
Identify system bottlenecks, improve performance, and propose solutions that scale as we grow.
Ensure compliance-related functionality is built with accuracy, safety, and trust as core principles.
What We're Looking For
Typically 5+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer with strong backend focus (though we care more about depth than timeline).
Experience with distributed/event-driven/asynchronous systems, messaging patterns and their inherent trade-offs.
Experience with AWS or similar cloud vendors, ideally in event-driven or serverless environments.
Strong understanding of system design, infrastructure fundamentals, and cloud-native patterns.
Experience with Go (Golang), our BE language.
A quality-focused engineering mindset: easy to maintain code, balanced testing, good documentation, and good observability.
Comfortable owning features end-to-end in an iterative, product-driven environment.
Strong communicator who thrives in a collaborative and curious engineering culture.
Experience in regulated industries, identity, KYC/KYB, risk, or FinTech is a plus (not required).
If you're excited about this role but don't meet every requirement listed above, we still encourage you to apply. We value diverse perspectives and recognise that great engineers come from many paths.
What We Offer
A key role in shaping the technical foundation of a growing product company.
High autonomy, influence, and ownership in designing and building our core systems.
Competitive salary and stock option program.
A modern tech stack: Go, AWS serverless, event-driven systems, and developer-first tooling.
A collaborative, curious team culture where engineering quality matters and where we grow together.
Flexibility to manage your work in a way that works for you, with a hybrid setup from our Stockholm office (minimum 3 days per week). We have a beautiful office and furry friends are welcome!
Our Commitment to Inclusion
We believe that diverse teams build better products. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can do their best work. If you need any accommodations during the interview process, please let us know.
